Thiers-Issard
About the Thiern
The people of Thiers are the Thiernois, and the Thiern is a knife named for them: Thiers-Issard's own design for an everyday French pocket knife, made and finished by hand in its Thiers workshop.
It has a single 11 cm blade in Sandvik 12C27, a fine Swedish stainless steel that takes a keen edge and is easy to resharpen, and a full handle without bolsters. The blade carries the Thiern name, the ricasso the G.R. mark of Gilles Reynewaeter, who has run Thiers-Issard since 1985.
Thiers was the capital of the French pocket knife: in 1867 the town and its valley made 60 percent of all French cutlery, above all folding knives.

Care
- Wipe the blade clean and dry after use, especially after cutting fruit or cheese.
- Put a drop of oil in the joint between blade and spring about once a month.
- Keep wooden and horn handles away from long soaking; a little oil now and then keeps wood lively.
- Hone the edge on a fine stone or ceramic rod.
